Robbinsdale Human Rights Commission Holds Special Meetings in June
This is an excerpt from the City Of Robbinsdale’s Human Rights Commission page found here
A Special Human Rights Commission Meeting was held on June 11th – the agenda was to receive information from Chair Webb and Mayor Murphy on discussion and planning for community listening sessions and conversations on race and equity in response to the death of George Floyd; for commission members to discuss and provide guidance to the City Council on the forums being planned; and to develop a plan for the June 18th commission meeting. It was the first opportunity for the commission to discuss among themselves, consider options, and plan for a community forum and steps going forward. It was not in itself a community forum. The meeting was open to the public to listen to the commission discussion in accordance with the Open Meeting Law. The police chief and captain were available as resources or to answer questions the commission might have about required training, etc. The agenda was limited in nature in order to make progress towards goals. In order to have meaningful public forums, there needs to be planning meetings first.
On June 16th at the 7 pm City Council meeting, Chair Webb and Mayor Murphy will be reporting on plans for the public forum with a professional moderator. It is expected that the forum will be held within a month and broadcast with the assistance of CCX Media. The city council memorandum notes that the Human Rights Commission has expressed interested in the formation of and participation on a taskforce on race and equity in Robbinsdale to be lead by a professional moderator with experience in similar community conversations. It is anticipated that the taskforce would include both HRC members and other members of the community. You can watch the City Council meeting on-line at www.ccxmedia.org/ccx-cities/robbinsdale.
A second Special Robbinsdale Human Rights Commission Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 18th at 7:00 p.m.to continue commission discussion and preparations for a community forum on race and equity. The police chief and captain will again be available to the commission as resources or to answer questions the commission might have about required training, etc. This meeting is open for the public to listen via WebEx.
